I did. I walked a mile and ran 1.6, and lived through it. But here's the top 5 reasons I'm not fond of running in the rain:
- Worms! (I always think about that scene from the movie Roxanne: "I was afraid of worms, Roxanne, worms!) When it's raining, the worms crawl out of the grass and across the path. It's tricky dodging those suckers. I don't want to step on them!
- Slicker woes #1: my raincoat doesn't breathe well, so I have to wear it to keep from getting drenched, but I'm sweaty underneath and all hot and gross...
- Slicker woes #2: wearing the hood is LOUD. Have you ever noticed that? It's loud in there. By the way, my daughter laughed at me when I told her to wear her slicker today. She told me I shouldn't call it that, so I added that she should also wear her galoshes. Old timey words are fun!
- Wet dogs in my car! Need I say more? Gross! I run with all three of my dogs, but we have to take my car to the trail where we run. After the run, those muddy, wet creatures shook themselves in my VW!
- And, worst of all... my running shoes (plus my socks, pants, heck, my most of me) get wet. No runner I know likes getting their running shoes wet. In fact, if you're like me, you only wear your running shoes for running, and you keep them on top of your dresser when you're not wearing them just to make sure your dogs (see reason #4) don't chew them.
That being said, I do feel like I earn it when I get out there on days like today. I'm a bad-a$$ who also runs in the rain. I feel like I own the trail way more than those weekenders on bikes- I've put the time in.
