My neurology appointment is on Tuesday,  and my Mom is coming to visit me this week to help out. She's awesome like that. I'm really done with these headaches, so I'm hoping the Dr. has some answers for me.

My running lately has been mostly walking, but I have found a really lovely yoga class that I've been attending. I think as long as I'm still moving, I will be okay when my body decides it can run again.

I have been reading a ton. Marathoning for mortals, Mr. Mercedes, Dr. Sleep, Notes from the internet apocalypse,  77 Shadow Street, & I'm rereading The story of B.

Here are some pictures from last week:

Our haul from the farmers market, and other errands on Saturday.

Mia got Rob a rocket for Father's Day, and they had fun playing with it.
The new Silver Diner opened in Waldorf with lots of vegan options.
My battle with A. C. Moore is over, and I am the victor.
More yoga in July.
I have been drinking lots of fruit smoothies.
We saw Maxx impact, and they recognized veterans, like my love.

I got to spend some time with the lovely Kara!

VEGAN EATING OUT Silver Diner, Waldorf, MD

Yesterday,  Mia and I went to the newly opened Silver They'ree e Waldorf, MD.
We've eaten at the Silver Diner before, they have other local locations, but this one is very close to home, and we are very excited.
I love that TSD has many vegan options, and not only is everything very clearly labeled on the menu, but the staff is also very knowledgeable. Some of the vegan options include soy ice cream,  vegan peso,  pastas,  even their coleslaw is vegan!
When we arrived,  we talked to Ype Von Hengst, the executive chef, and co-founder. He was really pleasant, and we talked about vegan options in the area. He made some recommendations, and also promised to bring soy milkshakes to TSD in the airport location!
Mia and I started with the two vegan milkshakes: a soy chai tea milkshake, and a summer berry ginger milkshake.

For lunch, I ordered the Mango veggie stir fry. Yum.

Mia ordered the Portabello pesto pasta. The vegan pesto is amazing. Apparently, their vegan sandwich has this pesto on it, so I will be ordering that next time. It was very good.

Thank you, Silver Diner, for being so vegan friendly! (They're also veg friendly, have clear indicators on their menu for those with gluten sensitivities, and get local, organic ingredients! They also give back to the community.) Well done! I will be back! There are 7 meals on your menu I can't wait to try!

Headache update: they're still here. I am managing them better, but they're still a problem. Saw my Dr. on Friday and we reviewed my bloodwork, which all looked good (surprise, surprise, my cholesterol is the lowest she'd seen in a patient). So, I get to see a neurologist next week. In the meantime, I've been cleared for running as long as I feel okay (slow and easy). Still no go on getting bumped, so I won't be starting roller derby anytime soon. Also, we will be driving when we travel this summer, not flying.

Dissertation update: I have IRB approval from both Capella and CSM, so next I will be doing a conference call with my committee, and then starting my interviews.

Vegan update: I haven't been blogging much about what I've been eating etc. Hopefully I will get caught up. Eventually.

Running update: the time I haven't spent on the trail has been spent signing up for races. Now officially on the books are:
-Air Force/Navy half marathon
-Baltimore running festival 5k
-Christmas town 8k
-Rock and Roll DC half marathon
-Wilds half marathon

Rob, Mia, Ryan and I did the R.O.C. 5K this Saturday. We took it slow between many of the obstacles, and I walked around the wrecking ball so I wouldn't get hit.

Reading update: been doing quite a bit of that lately, including King's Mr. Mercedes, some research, Saving Ophelia, Lindsey Nixon's latest, Game of Thrones, The tapping solution, and the Calvin and Hobbes Collection.

Still dealing with my headaches. I've had an MRI & MRA, and should get the results this week.  Blood tests are normal. Cluster headaches, while more common for men, then women, seems to be the diagnosis. I see my doc again on Friday to try to iron out treatment. I'm becoming better at reading the warning signs, and am able to guess when one is coming on (really watery eyes and excess saliva seem to be indicators) during the day, so my headaches during waking hours are held to 2-5 level. The nighttime ones are tricky though, since I'm asleep, I can't predict them.

My running ban is lifted. Doc says short, slow runs are fine, just to moniter how I'm feeling, run in public, and not too far yet. Good thing, too. I am really feeling it. I need to start training again, even if I have to nap afterwards (which will likely happen). We are signed up for a 5k on Saturday, but Rob & Mia will take it at my pace.

I've been wearing magnetic necklaces,  which I think helps some, although I really don't know yet.

Anyway, I am hoping this will be a great week. I was able to push through some headaches this past week while maintaining humanity, which gives me a ton of hope. I'm very optomisticly hopeful that I will be normal (or, as normal as I get) SOON.

National Running Day

I am a runner, there is no question about it.
When I started running almost two years ago, I wouldn't ever have believed I'd ever say that.
I love running. I'm not fast, but I love it.

Today is National Running Day. Above is a picture of me last year on this day.
This year, I am not able to run today.
I'm sad about that.
But I know I will run again.
In fact,  I will be running another half in September.
And again in March, and in May.

I will run again.
